In these Terms, references to “we”, “us”, and “our” mean Stepney Carpet Cleaners, and references to “you” and “your” mean the customer receiving the service. These terms apply to all standard carpet cleaning services, upholstery work, stain treatment, and any associated add-on services agreed at the time of booking. If any special conditions apply to a particular job, they will be confirmed in writing and will take priority over these general terms to the extent of any conflict.

1. Booking Process

All bookings are subject to availability and confirmation by us. A booking is usually made after you provide the address, type of service required, approximate size of the area, and any known issues such as staining, pet odours, delicate fibres, or restricted access. We may ask additional questions to make sure the correct equipment, detergents, and time allowance are allocated. Where necessary, we may provide an estimate first and then confirm the final price once the scope of work is clearer.

When you make a booking, you must ensure that the details you provide are accurate and complete. If the information changes before the appointment, you must tell us as soon as reasonably possible. Changes to room count, carpet condition, parking restrictions, access limitations, or service expectations may affect the time required and the final charge. We reserve the right to revise an estimate or decline part of a job if the actual conditions differ materially from those described at the time of booking.

Booking confirmation may be given verbally or in writing, including by email or message, and will normally include the service date, approximate arrival window, and a summary of the requested work. The booking becomes binding once we have accepted it and you have agreed to the quoted scope, price, and any applicable terms. Access and Preparation

You are responsible for making sure we can access the property at the agreed time. If we cannot begin work because access is not available, or because the area has not been sufficiently prepared, this may be treated as a late cancellation or wasted visit and charged accordingly.

2. Services, Estimates, and Service Changes

Any estimate provided by Stepney Carpet Cleaners is based on the information available at the time and may be adjusted if the condition or size of the work differs from what was described. Estimates are not fixed prices unless we expressly state that they are. The final price may reflect additional labour, pre-treatment, specialist stain work, or extra drying-related tasks agreed on site before the work proceeds.

We will use reasonable skill and care in delivering the carpet cleaning service and will use products and methods that we consider appropriate for the material and condition involved. However, some marks, odours, wear, colour loss, or pre-existing damage may not be removable. We may recommend a method or product, but you remain responsible for informing us of any manufacturer restrictions, prior treatments, sensitive materials, or areas that should not be cleaned in a particular way.

We may need to alter the procedure if we discover hidden risks such as loose seams, colour bleed, water-sensitive dyes, unstable backing, or fragile pile. Where an item appears unsafe to clean or likely to suffer damage, we may stop work on that item and notify you. In such cases, we will only charge for work already completed and any reasonable costs incurred up to the point of suspension.

Customer Responsibilities

You must remove small personal items, fragile possessions, and valuables from the areas to be cleaned unless we have agreed otherwise. We are not responsible for packing, shifting, or storing items unless this has been specifically included in the booking. Any furniture movement we undertake will be limited to what is safe and practical and may exclude heavy, fixed, antique, or high-risk items.

3. Payments

Payment terms will be confirmed at the time of booking or before work begins. Unless otherwise agreed, payment is due on completion of the service on the same day. We may accept card payment, bank transfer, or other agreed methods, but the available options can vary by job type. Any deposit requested in advance is part-payment of the total fee and will usually be non-refundable except where we cancel the booking or otherwise agree in writing.

If payment is not made when due, we may withhold a completion receipt, suspend further services, or take reasonable steps to recover the outstanding balance. You may be responsible for any lawful costs incurred in collecting overdue amounts. Where a payment is disputed, you should notify us promptly with the relevant reasons and supporting information. Undisputed amounts must still be paid on time.

All prices are stated in pounds sterling unless otherwise indicated. Where VAT is applicable, it will be included or stated separately, depending on how the quotation is presented. Any promotional discount, package rate, or special offer applies only to the conditions described in the relevant offer and may be withdrawn or amended for future bookings without notice. Discounts cannot usually be combined unless we expressly allow it.

Additional Charges

Extra charges may apply where there is heavy soiling, excessive furniture moving, restricted access requiring additional time, parking or entry costs that are unavoidable, or a requirement for specialist treatment beyond the normal carpet cleaning specification. We will normally identify likely extras before work starts where reasonably possible. If unexpected additional work becomes necessary during the visit, we will seek your approval before proceeding wherever practical.

4. Cancellations, Rescheduling, and Late Arrival

You may cancel or reschedule a booking by giving reasonable notice. If you cancel with sufficient notice, any deposit may be refunded or transferred to a new date, depending on the circumstances and any costs already incurred. If you cancel at short notice, fail to provide access, or turn away our team upon arrival without a valid reason, we may charge a cancellation fee or retain all or part of any deposit to cover lost time and travel costs.

We will make reasonable efforts to arrive within the agreed time window, but arrival times are estimates rather than guarantees. Traffic, weather, access delays, equipment issues, or earlier jobs running over may affect timing. If we expect a significant delay, we will try to notify you as soon as possible. A delay alone does not usually give rise to compensation unless we have acted negligently or agreed a fixed appointment guarantee in writing.

If we must cancel or postpone a booking due to illness, equipment failure, safety concerns, or other circumstances beyond our reasonable control, we will offer an alternative appointment. If no suitable alternative can be arranged, any prepaid amount relating to the cancelled work will be refunded for the affected part only. We do not accept liability for inconvenience caused by cancellation where the reason is outside our control, except as required by law.

Right to Refuse or Stop Work

We may refuse to start work, or may stop work once started, if the property is unsafe, the conditions differ materially from the booking description, the customer behaves abusively, or there is an unresolved payment issue. In such circumstances, we may charge for time spent, materials used, and travel where appropriate and lawful. Our decision will be based on safety, legality, and fairness.

5. Liability and Limitations

We will carry out our services with reasonable care and skill, as required by UK law. If we cause direct damage through negligence, we will assess the issue promptly and, where liability is established, we may repair, clean again, or offer a reasonable monetary adjustment. You must notify us of any issue as soon as reasonably possible so that we can inspect it and take appropriate action. Failure to notify us promptly may affect our ability to investigate the matter properly.

We are not liable for pre-existing damage, hidden defects, permanent staining, fabric weakness, shrinkage due to age or manufacture, colour loss due to unstable dyes, or damage caused by unsuitable materials or prior treatments that were not disclosed to us. We are also not responsible for items left on the floor, valuables not removed, or damage caused by moving furniture that you asked us to move where that item was inherently fragile or unsuitable for relocation.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim arising out of a booking is limited to the amount paid, or payable, for the specific service that gave rise to the claim. We do not exclude or limit liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or fraudulent misrepresentation. Nothing in these terms is intended to limit your statutory consumer rights.

Drying, Ventilation, and Aftercare

Carpets and upholstery may require a period of drying after cleaning. Drying times can vary according to ventilation, pile type, weather, and the cleaning method used. You are responsible for allowing suitable ventilation and avoiding use of the treated area until it is sufficiently dry. We are not liable for issues arising from early use, poor ventilation, or contact with the area before the drying period has completed.

6. Waste Regulations and Environmental Compliance

We do not expect customers to dispose of our waste materials unless this has been expressly agreed. Any waste generated in the course of providing the service will be managed responsibly and, where required, taken away for lawful disposal or handled in a manner consistent with local disposal requirements and good practice.

If the job involves disposal of contaminated materials, heavily soiled disposables, or other waste that cannot be left on site, we may charge for lawful collection and disposal where this has been agreed in advance or is reasonably necessary to complete the service. You must tell us in advance if there are any hazardous substances, biological contamination, sharps, chemicals, or other regulated materials present. We do not undertake work involving regulated hazardous waste unless we have expressly agreed to do so and have the legal capacity to manage it.

You must not ask us to dispose of items or substances unlawfully. If we believe a request would breach waste regulations, environmental rules, or safety requirements, we may refuse the request and, if necessary, end the visit. We may also report serious legal or safety concerns where required by law. Our cleaning products are selected with consideration for practicality and environmental responsibility, but no product is entirely without environmental impact.

Property Condition and Hazardous Materials

If we encounter mould, asbestos suspicion, chemical contamination, urine saturation beyond normal treatment, or any other potentially hazardous condition, we may suspend the work until the issue is assessed and made safe by the appropriate professional. We are not responsible for diagnosing hidden building or contamination issues. Where hazardous conditions are identified, any additional cleaning may only continue once the site is safe and suitable for service.

7. Complaints and Service Issues

If you are unhappy with any aspect of the service, you should contact us as soon as possible after the appointment and provide a clear description of the concern. Where relevant, you should allow us a reasonable opportunity to inspect the area and consider a remedy. We may ask for photographs, item details, or evidence of prior condition so that we can assess the issue fairly. Delayed complaints may be harder to investigate accurately.

We may offer a re-clean, partial refund, or other fair resolution depending on the circumstances and the nature of the issue. A complaint will not automatically mean that the service was defective. Some results depend on factors outside our control, including fabric condition, age, and previous wear. Our aim is to resolve issues proportionately and in line with our obligations under UK consumer law.

Force Majeure

We are not responsible for delay or failure to perform our obligations where this results from events beyond our reasonable control, including severe weather, transport disruption, fire, flood, power failure, epidemic, government restrictions, or similar events. In such cases, we will try to rearrange the appointment or provide an appropriate alternative solution where feasible.

8. Governing Law

These terms may be updated from time to time to reflect legal, operational, or business changes. The version in force at the time of your booking will normally apply to that booking unless a later version is expressly agreed.
